At last can settle down to some good work, after moving house and getting over a strained arm muscle — Brahms’ 2nd Concerto, which I’ll play with the Slovak State Philarmonia in early October (3rd – Kosice, 4th – Levoca), and Sorabji’s Symphony no.6 for solo piano (Netherlands 27th Oct, Oxford 2 Nov).
We have just moved house to the mountains. Now I can practise all day and night … if I really wanted to … without the fear of some moron calling the police (yes, they really did that where we used to live, without even contacting us first). Am now working on Brahms’ 2nd Piano Concerto,Continue reading “new premises”

Next week is very exciting as I will play in Norway for the first time, thanks to the excellent Borealis Festival and its artistic director Alwynne Pritchard. I’ll even be playing in the Troldsalen, the concert hall built to complement the Grieg Museum in his house Troldhaugen. The programme combines late-Romantic, early modern and contemporary musingsContinue reading “Borealis Festival – Bergen, Norway”

I’ve recently put quite few live recordings on Soundcloud … If you fancy a listen, go to https://soundcloud.com/isokani and have a look: there’s some Albeniz, Debussy, Marx, Grainger, Enecsu, Alexandrov, Bach-Feinberg.
Here is a list of my concerts this Autumn. Mostly Messiaen (newly learned earlier this summer) and Albeniz (continuing the touring I did of Iberia earlier in the year), but with some exciting new things: my wife Irena and I will give our first complete piano duet concert, including a new piece written for us byContinue reading “Concerts Autumn 2012”
My latest CD is now in the factory, and will soon be available. Jānis Mediņš’ 24 Dainas were written over a period of 40 years. The CD is released by Toccata Classics. Mediņš was from a family of Latvian musicians and helped establish opera and ballet in his native country. After emigrating to Sweden, he concentratedContinue reading “Jānis Mediņš — 24 Dainas forthcoming release”

My new CD of music by Felix Blumenfeld has been released by Convivium Records and is available now. It contains the quite large Sonate-Fantaisie and Nocturne-Fantaisie, and a collection of smaller pieces, including the cycle Episodes from the Life of a Dancer. The music is quite fun. I am about to go to Husum to playContinue reading “Felix Blumenfeld”
